Why Survyr exists
The word surveyor comes from the Latin supervidere, meaning to see over. To oversee. For more than two thousand years, the surveyor has been the figure who sees clearly when others cannot, the one who reduces a chaotic site, an unmeasured field, or a tangle of contractual risk into something legible and ordered.
The APC asks a candidate to do the same thing with their own career. To stand back from years of project notes, valuations, claims, and meetings and see clearly what they actually know, what they have actually done, and what kind of professional they have actually become.
That is harder than it sounds. Most candidates do not fail the APC because they lack experience. They fail because they cannot yet see their experience clearly enough to structure it, defend it, and present it under questioning. Survyr was built to close that gap. Every module exists to bring one part of your competence into clearer focus, from the daily training diary entry to the final mock interview the night before assessment.
About the name
You will have noticed. The word Surveyor is missing an "e" and an "o" in our name. This is not a typo and it is not a vanity domain hack.
The traditional title, sharpened.
Modern professional tools live in a different world to the one the chartered surveyor was trained in. Candidates revise on phones during a commute, dictate diary entries between site visits, and rehearse competency answers at 11pm after the children are asleep. The tool has to meet them there. The name was chosen to signal exactly that. The traditional title, sharpened. The craft, unchanged. The friction, removed.
Survyr keeps every syllable of the profession's heritage. It just drops the parts that slow you down.
A note from the founder
I sat my own APC as a chartered quantity surveyor and I remember exactly what the run-up to the final assessment felt like. Years of real project work, and yet the night before, the question that mattered was not whether I had done enough. It was whether I could see what I had done clearly enough to defend it.
Most candidates have done the work. What they need is the instrument to make sense of it, to structure it against the RICS competencies, to rehearse it under realistic pressure, and to walk in on assessment day knowing exactly what they will say when the room goes quiet. Survyr is that instrument. I built it as the platform I wish I had had, and I am building it openly with the candidates who are using it now.
